Dear Romal Lord:

People are what are known as a biological life form. With life comes death, it is a natural part of nature. Why do people die? For the same reason that anything else dies.

Cells have a maximum life span. Based on elements currently beyond the scope of modern science or medicine, we can not determine the maximum life of a cell. On the positive side, cells divide and form new cells, usually many many times before the original cell itself dies. Think of a cell dividing as making a very high resolution digital copy, where the copy is exactly the same as the original. However, unlike the digital world where we can make infinite copies with no loss in degradation, cell division and replication is an analog process. Only so many copies can be made before that last batch finally is unable to replicate and divide any further. This process could be millions if not billions of copies before the system breaks down. At this point, life as we know it would be forced to end due to pure mechanical breakdown at the cellular level. This is what would be called a natural death, or at least one form of natural death.

Life and death isn't always so simple. There are many reasons for people dying young, but still of natural causes. This can be due to genetic or physical defects or other issues. For example, why would a perfectly healthy baby just suddenly die due to SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)? Why do some young people end up having some sort of major organ failure at such a young age and die? These natural deaths tend to be difficult to explain, especially to their loved ones, because it does not make sense from the typical human mindset that we're supposed to die at significantly higher ages.

Natural death also takes on many other forms. Really, in very few cases, the body dies from the cells just simply running out, as described earlier. Most forms of natural death tend to be due to heart failure, as well as other organ failures, in which an organ or organs necessary for life and survival wear out sooner than the rest of the body. This can range from simply nature takings its course, to the organ having been subjected to abuse or trauma due to lifestyle choices. Heavy drinkers tend to have liver problems. Smokers often have lung problems, as well as heart issues and high blood pressure, which can lead to health complications. Some people can have diseases that damage organs. Sometimes organs simply fail, although most failures can often be detected early, but that doesn't mean the damage can be repaired or corrected.

Some people die due to things outside their control. Accidents happen, such as car accidents. You hear reports of climbing accidents where someone falls off a cliff or something like that. People can engage in risky activities and something goes wrong. In some cases, people's lives a deliberately ended, usually due to a violent crime such as murder or homicide. In such instances, people usually die as a result of injuries received as a direct result of something else.

In the end, everything dies. The real question is did one truly live?

Some belief systems believe in an afterlife. Some believe in reincarnation. Many cultures and society tend to use one or both of those systems. Still others believe that life as we know it but a stage of an overall greater existance, in which case merely the body dies, but the essence, spirit or soul of that individual is released to exist at a different stage of being.

Then again, maybe some people die because they hit the send button too many times on a web form. You know, one time gets it here. You really don't need pound the crap out of the send button.
